South African hip hop artist Leslie Mampe (born in Washington, DC), popularly known by stage name Da L.E.S, moved to South Africa in 1993. Da L.E.S introduced himself to the mainstream in 2005 when he appeared as a member of the motherland crunk group Jozi. He released his debut album Fresh 2 Def in June, 2008, which includes the singles "Tippy Toes" and "We on Fire."
